A new study in the international journalprovides a new answer on the dangers of counterfeit drugs.
In a study published in theon Tuesday in, researchers at the University of the Sunshine Coast, Brazil, found counterfeit drugs could be sold in pharmacies to buy up to a million dollars a year. That was far below the estimated cost of goods sold in the United States.
The study, which was funded by the National Institute for Health Research and the World Health Organization, is the first ever study of counterfeit drugs in the United States. The study was published online May 12 in.
The researchers said the counterfeiters have been selling counterfeit drugs for many years and had been seen in pharmacies, but had never been sold to a buyer. They said the fake drugs were often shipped from foreign sources, often shipped to China. They also said they purchased the drugs from sources they knew had been manufactured by foreign companies.
This was the first study to look for the counterfeit drugs in the United States, the researchers said.
The findings, which were published online May 1, showed that counterfeit drugs could be sold in pharmacies to buy up to a million dollars a year, depending on the source and the quantity purchased. For example, the price of an ordinary Viagra pill, which could cost as much as $2,000, could be purchased for as little as $3,000.
If the study proves that counterfeiters have the money to buy up to a million dollars a year, they would need to make sure the drug is safe to buy in the United States. The FDA, in its annual report on prescription drugs, estimated that counterfeit medicines are responsible for around 2 million deaths each year.
The drugs used in the study were sold to customers, as well as doctors and other health care professionals. The study was funded by the National Institute for Health Research and the World Health Organization. For more information, visit.
